At 15 years old, Katie Ledecky was the youngest member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team and made her name known worldwide when she won gold in the 800-meter freestyle in London. She missed the world record by about a half a second, but her time of 8:14.63 broke the longest-standing American record in the books. Ledecky turned 16 in March and is completing her sophomore year at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Md.
