COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The USA Swimming Foundation today announced the addition of four-time Olympic medalist, TV host and mom Summer Sanders. Sanders officially becomes part of the Board on September 1, 2012.
“The mission of the Foundation is Saving Lives and Building Champions, and as an Olympic gold medal-winner, Summer obviously understands what it takes Build Champions,” said Bill Maxson, USA Swimming Foundation Board chair. “As a mother of two swimmers, she also understands the importance of Saving Lives by helping children become safer around the water. The work of the Foundation has been a focus of Summer's for a long time. We look forward to formalizing her role as she continues to help further our mission.”
“Swimming has been such a positive force in my life, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help share it with others,” said Sanders. “From my experience at the elite level to watching my kids enjoy the water today, I know how much the sport can offer, and how incredibly important it is to help children learn to swim. I look forward to offering my perspective as both an athlete and a mom as we work together to save lives and build champions.”
The USA Swimming Foundation’s Board of Directors supports the work of the USA Swimming Foundation by providing mission-based leadership and strategic governance. Among the duties Sanders will assume in her role are: Serving as a policy maker, developing and implementing the Foundation’s strategic plan, participating actively in the Board’s annual evaluation and planning efforts and acting as an ambassador for the organization.
