Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool Opens Friday
Led by Olympic gold medalists Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md.), Tyler Clary (Riverside, Calif.) and Anthony Ervin (Valencia, Calif.), Team USA will face the European All-Stars in the sixth Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool this weekend in Glasgow, Scotland.
The two-day, short-course meters Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool will be contested at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, site of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Day one of the meet is slated for Friday at 2 p.m. ET, followed by the conclusion of the meet Saturday at 9 a.m. ET. NBC will nationally televise the meet Sunday from 4-6 p.m. ET.
The U.S. roster of 34 swimmers features 14 Olympians and nine gold medalists, including Claire Donahue (Lenoir City, Tenn.), Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill.), Jessica Hardy (Long Beach, Calif.), Cullen Jones (Irvington, N.J.), Breeja Larson (Mesa, Ariz.) and Matt McLean (Sterling, Va.) – in addition to Clary, Ervin and Ledecky.
Twenty-three Team USA members represented the U.S. at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, and 23 team members will be competing in their first Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool. A complete Team USA roster can be found here.
The European All-Stars will feature 38 swimmers, including the likes of Olympic medalists Yannick Agnel of France, Michael Jamieson of Great Britain and Ranomi Kromowidjojo of The Netherlands. A complete roster for the European All-Stars can be found here.
The Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool is a made-for-television event, designed to showcase the sport’s most exciting swimmers in a short-course meters format. This year’s event will be the sixth Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool in the history of USA Swimming, with past Duels held in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011. The U.S. is undefeated and holds a 5-0 record in the event’s history.
The meet will be comprised of 15 events per gender (13 individual and two relays) with prize money at around $120,000. The winning team will earn a portion of the winnings, while prize money will be awarded to the winner of each race. A bonus will also be awarded for any world-record swim at the event.
