Youth Learn-to-Swim Grant

Swim lesson providers and USA Swimming clubs around the nation are working to bring more children into their programs and spread the life-saving skill of swimming to members of their community. Through grants and program support, the USA Swimming Foundation uplifts these organizations and helps ensure cost is never a reason why an individual does not learn to swim. One month of formal swimming lessons can cost as little at $50 per child within the USA Swimming Foundation lesson provider network and that month of lessons can make the difference in the safety of a child.

The Facts
  • No child is ever water safe. The goal of swim lessons is to make children SAFER in, on, and around water.
  • 79% of children in households with incomes less than $50,000 have little-to-no swimming ability.
  • Research shows 64% of African American, 45% of Hispanic/Latino, and 40% of Caucasian children have little to no swimming ability.
  • 10 people drown each day in the United States.

The USA Swimming Foundation Youth Learn-to-Swim Grants are intended to expand existing programming and support opportunities for children who otherwise would not participate in swimming lessons for the purpose of acquiring the life saving skill of swimming. Awarded funds may be used by the swim lesson program to offer free or reduced-cost swimming lessons and/or support transportation to/from the swim lesson location(s).
