Madden Picks Up Another Win on Night Two of the TYR Pro Championships
The 2023 TYR Pro Championships continued Thursday with the 400m freestyle, the 200m individual medleys, the 50m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays.
2020 Olympian and National Team member Paige Madden (Mobile, Ala./New York Athletic Club) picked up her second win with her decisive victory in the women’s 400m freestyle. She also won the women’s 800m freestyle Wednesday. Rachel Stege (Naperville, Ill./Athens Bulldog Swim Club) finished second again behind Madden in a time of 4:10.14. Aurora Roghair (Iowa City, Iowa/Alto Swim Club) finished third in 4:11.89.
On the men’s side, Matthew Galea of Australia picked up his second win of the meet with his win in the 400m freestyle. National Team member Jake Magahey (Dacula, Ga./Athens Bulldog Swim Club) finished second in 3:47.67 and Daniel Matheson (Peoria, Ariz./Sun Devil Swimming) was third in 3:48.94.
Another Australian was atop the podium in the women’s 200m individual medley. Ella Ramsay won in a time of 2:11.07. Alicia Wilson of Great Britain was second in 2:12.32 and National Team member Beata Nelson (Madison, Wis./Wisconsin Aquatic Club) rounded out the top three in 2:12.40.
Grant House (Maineville, Ohio/Sun Devil Swimming) took the men’s 200m individual medley win in 1:58.2. Colin Feehery (Flower Mound, Texas/Dallas Mustangs) was second in 1:59.49 and Australia’s William Petric was third in 1:59.57.
2020 Olympian Catie Deloof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./New York Athletic Club) won the women’s 50m freestyle in 24.68, equaling her personal best time. Grace Cooper (Oswego, Ill./Longhorn Aquatics) came in second in 24.77 and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Simone Manuel (Sugar Land, Texas/Sun Devil Swimming) finished third in 25.05.
While Tomas Nowakow of Australia won the men’s 50m freestyle in 21.81, 2020 Olympian Brooks Curry tied Italy’s Santo Condorell for second in 22.04.
The California Aquatics team of Isabelle Stadden (Blaine, Minn.), Alicia Henry (Alpharetta, Ga.), Lizzy Cook (Portland, Ore.) and Eloise Riley (AUS) won the women’s 4x100m medley relay in 4:02.18 – more than three seconds ahead of the second-place team. On the men’s side, the Australian team won in a time of 3:36.00.
All sessions will be streamed on www.usaswimming.org/watch. Prelims begin daily at 9 a.m. PT while finals will be at 5 p.m. PT daily.
The TYR Pro Championships run through Saturday and are the culmination of the annual TYR Pro Swim Series.
