Dobson Tops Podium Twice on Night Two of Toyota U.S. Open
Seventeen-year-old Kennedi Dobson (Levittown, Pa./Eastern Express Swim Team) claimed two victories on the second night of competition in Greensboro. In the evening's first two women's events, Dobson, who recently won three medals at the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships in August, bested the competition in the women's 500-yard freestyle and 200y individual medley. In the final individual women's event of the evening, Maddy Parker (Spanish Fork, Utah/Southern Methodist University) clocked a 22.26 to grab a victory in the 50y freestyle by .01, completing her return to national-level competition after an injury took her out of the pool shortly after the 2023 Toyota U.S. Open.
In the first men's race of the evening, Bradley Dunham (Hoschton, Ga./Swim Atlanta) took first place in the 500y freestyle by over a second. Immediately after, in the men's 200y individual medley, Charlie Egeland (Minneapolis, Minn./Yale University) went 1:44.60 to beat out 16-year-old Tim Wu (San Romon, Calif./Pleasanton Seahawks). In the final individual men's event of the evening, Brady Samuels (Muncie, Ind./Purdue University) touched out 2024 Paris Olympian Drew Kibler (Carmel, Ind./New York Athletic Club) in the 50y freestyle with a time of 19.33.
The final two events of the evening, the women's and men's 4x100y medley relay, offered an exciting finale to the second night of competition. Nation's Capital Swim Club touched first in the women's race, securing their third relay win in as many chances. Closing out the night, Loyola University Maryland claimed first and second in the men's relay, with their A and B teams (respectively) beating out the University of Utah. Racing continues through Saturday evening, with prelims starting at 9 a.m. ET and finals at 6 p.m. ET each day.
