COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming announced today that Tempe, Arizona, and Tempe Town Lake have been selected to host the 2018 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships on May 4-6, 2018.

Competing across 10-, 7.5- and 5-kilometer distances, the nation’s top open water swimmers and top juniors will compete for spots on U.S. rosters for the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships and Junior World Championships, as well as positions on the 2018-19 Open Water National Team and Open Water National Junior Team.

The full 2018 event schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, May 4: 10K National Championship
  • Saturday, May 5: 5K Junior National Championship
  • Sunday, May 6: 5K National Championship, 7.5K Junior National Championship

“Tempe Town Lake has hosted a number of events, and our athletes and coaches will enjoy a tremendous venue for the 2018 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships,” said Bryce Elser, USA Swimming National Team Open Water Program Director. “We are excited to extend the Junior National Championships format in 2018, which will not only provide a great competitive opportunity, but will serve as the qualification for FINA Open Water World Juniors.”

Following the addition of the 5K Junior National Championship in 2017, the 7.5K Junior National Championship will be contested in 2018 and 2020 to mirror the event program at the FINA Open Water World Junior Championships.
