Mason Manta Rays Down Two Meet Records at Speedo Winter Juniors - East

GREENSBORO, N.C. & AUSTIN, Texas. – The Mason Manta Rays, led by a trio of USA Swimming National Junior Team members, set meet records in the men’s 200-yard medley relay and 800y freestyle relay on Wednesday to open the Speedo Winter Junior Championships – East action at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
National Junior Team members Carson Foster, Jake Foster and Adam Chaney were joined on both relays by Jacob McDonald with the Ohio-based Mason Manta Rays quartet going 1 minute, 26.52 seconds in the 200y medley, followed by 6:23.97 in the 800y free.
Also featuring three National Junior Team members, the Nashville Aquatic Club swept the women’s relays on Wednesday in Greensboro. Alex Walsh, Ella Nelson, Lauren Hurt and Gretchen Walsh touched first in the women’s 200y medley in 1:38.32 and went 7:11.69 to clinch the 800y free title.
Meanwhile, at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, California’s Crow Canyon Country Club Sharks opened the Speedo Junior Championships – West with a victory in the women’s 200y free in 1:39.81, while the men’s race went to the Sierra Marlins, also from California, in 1:29.01.
Sierra Marlins also won the men’s 800y free relay in Austin in 6:32.90 with Colby Mefford, Ben Dillard and Finn O’Haimhirgin swimming on both victorious relays. Texas-based Magnolia Aquatic Club won the women’s 800y free relay in 7:09.87.
Action runs through Saturday at both sites with prelims at 9 a.m. local time, followed by 5 p.m. finals. Complete webcast of all sessions from both sites is available at usaswimming.org.
