Brendan Driscoll, competing unattached, rounded out the podium in 8:08.35.
After posting the fastest reaction time off the blocks in the championship heat, Mason Manta Rays’ Cora Dupre held on down the stretch and just got her fingers on the touch pad first in the women’s 50m free final. Dupre stopped the clock at 25.62, only .01 in front of Western Hills Athletic Club’s Emma Wheal, the top qualifier from prelims. Lindsay Flynn from Aquatic Team of Mecklenburg was right behind the leaders in 25.65.
Canton City Schools’ Hunter Armstrong was in a class by himself in the men’s 50m free final as he touched almost half a second ahead of the field with a 22.57. It marked Armstrong’s third win of the meet as he swept the 50m free, 100m free and 100m back this week, with his backstroke win coming in meet record time. Bellevue Club Swim Team’s Matt King got to the wall second in 23.04, while Dynamo Swim Club’s Brooks Curry rounded out the top three in 23.14.
