USA Swimming Foundation Announces 2018 Swim-a-Thon™ Grand Prize Winner
Rose Bowl Aquatics to receive prize package including a visit from Olympian Jacob Pebley
Following the conclusion of the USA Swimming Foundation’s 2018 Swim-a-Thon™ contest, which raises vital funds for both teams and the Foundation’s mission of Saving Lives and Building Champions, four teams were named Gold Medal winners for their fundraising efforts and entered into a Gold Medal Grand Prize draw to reap even further rewards. In a spin-the-wheel decision, it was announced that Rose Bowl Aquatics (Pasadena, Calif.) is the 2018 Gold Medal Grand Prize winner.
Watch as the winning team is selected:
Rose Bowl Aquatics raised $129,295 this year – the most of any team in the country. The fundraising success earned the team its third Gold Medal title in the last five years, with the other two Gold Medal (and Grand Prize) titles coming in 2014 and 2015.
The Grand Prize winner receives a package of prizes from the USA Swimming Foundation, as well as a visit from Olympian Jacob Pebley and one year’s worth of license fees from the SwimOffice™ Team Management online platform, provided by TeamUnify.
There were four Gold Medal teams entered into the Grand Prize drawing, earning their spot by receiving the most Swim-a-Thon points of all teams in their respective team-size categories. Along with Rose Bowl Aquatics, the Gold Medal teams entered into the drawing were Seward Tsunami Swim Club (Seward, Alaska), Bellingham Bay Swim Team (Bellingham, Wash.) and Baltimore Aquatic Club (Baltimore, Md.)
Together, 530 swimming teams from across the country hosted USA Swimming Foundation Swim-a-Thon contests in 2018, raising more than $7 million. As part of the Swim-a-Thon program, 5 percent of gross funds raised go to support the USA Swimming Foundation. In 2018, those funds totaled $357,000 for the Foundation.
The Swim-a-Thon is a fun event that helps teams raise money for pool time, travel expenses or any need the team has, while also contributing to the USA Swimming Foundation. Participating athletes can earn participation and incentive-based awards from the USA Swimming Foundation, including bag tags, sunglasses, water bottles, t-shirts, and/or an inflatable couch. Plus, qualified teams are automatically entered into the nationwide Swim-a-Thon contest, giving teams their chance to earn Gold Medal and Grand Prize honors.
