Women Coaches Named to Inaugural Women Coaches in Governance Program
USA Swimming today announced the names of 66 women coaches selected for the inaugural Women Coaches in Governance program. This program was developed by women coach leaders in our sport, geared towards identifying, educating, supporting and mentoring women coaches who wish to be more involved in organizational governance.
Thirty-eight Local Swimming Committees (LSCs) nominated a woman swim coach who had less than one year of governance work and a minimum of five years coaching experience to participate in the program. Due to not every LSC nominating someone, self-nominations were accepted to fill the roster. To view the full list of women named to the program, please click here.
The 10-week fellowship will begin Tuesday, September 13, 2022, and will focus on a wide range of topics which will help this group of up-and-coming women leaders in their professional development through organizational governance. Each hour-long session will include a panel discussion on a variety of topics as well as a governance-topic dialogue. The panel discussions range from how to be the only female in the room, career growth and development, LSC governance and structure, as well as understanding USA Swimming committees and working groups. Governance specific topics include roles and responsibilities of a board of directors, understanding bylaws, understanding policies and procedures and the role of the House of Delegates.
This program was developed over two years and curated by leaders Allison Beebe, Shelly Rawding, Cathy Sheafor, Mary Liston, Olga Espinosa, Julie Bachman and USA Swimming Team Services Senior Advisor Beth Winkowski.
Congratulations to all coaches selected for the Women Coaches in Governance program.
