2022 Golden Goggles at a Glance: Breakout Performer of the Year

The 2022 Golden Goggle Awards are set to take place in New York City on Monday, September 21, 2022. With the voting deadline of September 30 quickly approaching, here is a breakdown of the nominees for this year's Breakout Performer of the Year award:
Hunter Armstrong
After his world-record setting swim in the 50m backstroke at the 2022 Phillips 66 International Team Trials in April, Armstrong went on to win two gold, two silver and a bronze at the 2022 FINA World Championships.
Claire Curzan
Curzan followed her two-event showing at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 by swimming in eight finals at this summer’s World Championships. She left the competition with two gold and three bronze medals.
Carson Foster
After narrowly missing the Olympic roster last summer, Foster medaled in all three of his events at World Championships, winning gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay and silver in both the 200m and 400m individual medley events.
Leah Hayes
Hayes was the youngest American on the roster to medal in an individual event, winning bronze in the 200m individual medley, breaking the World Junior Record with a time of 2:08.91.
Torri Huske
Huske was the only American teenager to win three gold medals in Budapest. She swam in eight finals for the U.S. and totaled three gold and three bronze medals.
