Desert Aquatics Wins 2022 Swim-a-Thon Grand Prize
Congratulations to Desert Aquatics (DSRT), winner of the 2022 USA Swimming Foundation Swim-a-Thon grand prize: a visit from a USA Swimming National Team member. A total of four USA Swimming clubs – DSRT included – were named Gold Medal winners for their fundraising efforts. The Tiger Sharks of Texas Swim Team (TST), Ridgefield Aquatic Club (RAC) and SwimMAC Carolina (MAC) will be awarded $200 and a celebratory pizza party, courtesy of the USA Swimming Foundation.
More than 250 teams across the country hosted USA Swimming Foundation Swim-a-Thon contests in 2022, collectively raising more than $230,000 for the USA Swimming Foundation and over $4.6 million for their individual causes.
To earn Gold Medal status, Swim-a-Thon participating clubs must fundraise the highest dollar amount in their size category. Club sizes are 0-75, 76-150, 151-300 and 300+ participants.
This year, Olympic bronze medalist Natalie Hinds conducted the random grand-prize drawing with the above four teams. Watch the video below:
In the 0-75 participants category, DSRT (Southern California Swimming) took home the gold. Becoming an official USA Swimming member club in 1994, 2022 marked the group’s second time completing a Swim-a-Thon.
TST (South Texas Swimming) led the way in the 76-150 participants category.
“In addition to the awesome prizes USA Swimming Foundation provides as incentives, we upped the ante with some great sponsored gifts and creative prizes,” said head coach Sean Barry. Coaches dyeing their hair, getting pies smashed in their faces and defending themselves with tiny squirt guns in a team water fight are on the table.
In the 151-300 participants category, RAC (Connecticut Swimming) took to the water with the same competitive nature the team has in all other areas of athlete development. In addition to their fundraising efforts with the USA Swimming Foundation, the club is locally known for their support in “Team Racing Against Cancer,” which helps raise money for cancer research.
SwimMAC (North Carolina Swimming) claimed the title in the 300+ participants category. The club set a new Swim-a-Thon fundraising record and donated more than $7,000 to the USA Swimming Foundation. Additionally, SwimMAC had 28 athletes earn 2021-22 Scholastic All-America honors, leading all USA Swimming clubs across the country.
