USA Swimming Announces Athletes for LEN Open Water Cup – Barcelona
by USA Swimming
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming today announced the five athletes set to represent the United States at the LEN Open Water Cup on Saturday in Barcelona, Spain.
The LEN (European Swimming Federation) Open Water Cup in Barcelona is the final leg of a six-stop, 10k racing series that began in March. The U.S. athletes qualified to attend this competition based on their performances at the 2023 USA Swimming 10K Open Water National Championships and the 2023 USA Swimming 7.5K Open Water National Junior Championships in Sarasota, Florida in April. Although the competition is open to all ages, USA Swimming is sending a roster of Junior athletes. With World Aquatics Junior Open Water Swimming Championships only occurring in even-numbered years, this World Cup represents an important international competition opportunity for the younger American athletes. As this is a LEN event, the U.S. athletes will receive full event support but will be ineligible for awards or prize money.

Erisman won gold as part of the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay. Whitlock finished fifth in the men’s 400m and 800m freestyle events. The squad will be coached by Alec Haley of Fishers Area Swimming Tigers.
