2023 Golden Goggles at a Glance: Perseverance Award

The 2023 Golden Goggle Awards are set to take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 19, 2023. With the voting deadline of October 15 quickly approaching, here is the breakdown of the nominees for this year's Perseverance Award:

Lydia Jacoby

Following her gold-medal finish in Tokyo, Jacoby was poised for even more success. She went to Abu Dhabi to compete in the short course world championships just months later but left due to COVID concerns prior to her signature 100m breaststroke event. Later she missed qualifying for the long course world championship team. After taking time off and joining the swim program at Texas, Jacoby qualified for this world championships in two individual events. She would go on to win gold in the women’s 4x100m medley relay as well as an individual bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Ashley (Twichell) Wall

At 33 years old, Ashley (Twichell) Wall made her return to competition at the 2023 Open Water National Championships less than a year following the birth of her son, Lochlan. She qualified for the U.S. Open Water National Team with her fourth-place finish and will represent the United States at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
