GenericUnderwater885x544

The National Practice Data Project allows teams and their athletes a one-of-a-kind experience of diving into their season accomplishments through data analysis. To participate, follow these step-by-step directions or watch this video.

Originally created and tested with a small sample of 25 clubs in 2022, this new and exciting way to analyze data is now available to any club who wishes to participate. This year, any USA Swimming member club can contribute to this report in SWIMS. All clubs who participate will:
  • Receive an individualized interactive dashboard to compare club athlete practice performances to the collective national data. To view a screenshot of the dashboard, please click here.
  • Be better equipped to have constructive conversations with coaches and athletes on the many storylines of a season.
  • Analyze how coaches have adjusted workloads and recovery to maximize athlete performance.
  • Allow athletes the ability to connect workout efforts to swim meet performances.
To participate, coaches must give three separate practice sets within three different windows of the season. Completed times can be uploaded from the club page in SWIMS, which will automatically flow to the dashboard in real time.

Practice sets are:
  • 12x50 stroke best average (with approximately 1:1 or 1:5:1 rest ratio)
  • 8x100 kick choice (with approximately 1:0.5 work to rest ratio)
  • 6x200 free (with approximately :15 rest)
Windows to upload results are:
  • Now – October 22, 2023
  • October 23 – December 17, 2023
  • January 1 – February 25, 2024
As USA Swimming continues to roll out enhancements in SWIMS, we look forward to providing additional data insight such as this project to members. Please email stats@usaswimming.org for questions.
