Night one of TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont kicked off with Claire Weinstein (White Plains, N.Y./Sandpipers of Nevada) and David Johnston (Dallas, Texas/The Swim Team) winning the 800-meter freestyle events. 

Women’s 800m Freestyle – FINAL  
1 – Claire Weinstein (White Plains, N.Y./Sandpipers of Nevada), 8:23.73 
2 – Katie Grimes (Las Vegas, Nev./Sandpipers of Nevada), 8:24.84 
3 – Paige Madden (Mobile, Ala./New York Athletic Club), 8:31.70  

Weinstein on her race: “I’m happy with that race because we've been training hard. Racing when you are that tired is rough, so that's perfect.” 

Men’s 800m Freestyle – FINAL  
1 – David Johnston (Dallas, Texas/The Swim Team), 7:57.00 
2 – Michael Brinegar (Columbus, Ind./The Swim Team), 7:57.11 
3 – Luke Whitlock (Noblesville, Ind./Fishers Area Swimming Tigers), 7:58.20 

Johnston on his race: “I'm really happy with that race win, and it was fun racing against my teammates Mike (Brinegar) and Will (Gallant). We have been training really hard, and a TYR Pro is good to see where we are at and move forward for the rest of the season.” 

Competition continues through Saturday at the FMC Natatorium. Tomorrow’s action features the 200m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, and 400m individual medley. Thursday-Saturday prelims will begin at 9 a.m. CT, while finals start at 6 p.m. CT.
