Hammer Starts TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont with Win

WESTMONT, Ill. – Night one of the TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont kicked off with 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championship teammates Aiden Hammer (Fox Island, Wa./King Aquatic Club) and Luka Mijatovic (Pleasanton, Calif./Pleasanton Seahawks) going one-two in the men’s 1500-meter freestyle. Hammer went 15:15.37, touching out Mijatovic (15:16.31) by less than a second. Paris Olympian Luke Whitlock (Noblesville, Ind./Fishers Area Swimming Tigers) touched third at 15:23.53.
Women’s 1500m Freestyle – FINAL
1 – Beatriz Pimentel Dizotti (BRA), 16:28.73
2 – Marian Ploeger (GER), 16:32.99
3 – Abby Dunford (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Sharks), 16:41.73
Men’s 1500m Freestyle – FINAL

Hammer on his race: “It felt pretty good. I didn’t know I was capable of that (time). I am really proud of myself, and I followed the race plan my coach provided and descended it each 500. Overall, I had a lot of fun.”
Hammer on swimming against 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships teammate, Luka Mijatovic: “It was the best feeling ever, I love racing Luka (Mijatovic). Training over the last summer with him was the best. Honestly, standing here now reminds me of training with him at the (Olympic Training Center) and pushing each other in the last lengths of it. Overall, I’m happy to be able to race him.”
Competition continues through Saturday at the FMC Natatorium. Tomorrow’s action features the 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 50m backstroke, 200m butterfly, and 400m freestyle. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. CT, while finals start at 6 p.m. CT. Meet information and the complete competition schedule can be found here.
