Smith on her race execution: “Honestly, I’m not thrilled with (the race). I knew coming into this year that it was going to be a down year for me. I wanted to enjoy myself and have fun with swimming, along with taking a big mental and physical break. I knew that it was a possibility that my performances this season might not always be what I want them to be, so this was a good reminder of that. I still executed it as well as I could, so I want to be happy with my effort.”

It definitely hurt a lot more than I wanted it to, but I am happy with how it turned out and getting the win in the 50 free was fun.”

Douglass on preparing for the 50 after the 200 breaststroke: “Honestly, I was lucky enough to have enough time to warm down. Unfortunately, I took three breaths in that (race) which I was not planning on. But after a race earlier in the session it’s hard not to.”
