USA Swimming University Launches New Referee Certification Course

An additional Officials course has been added to USA Swimming University, adding to the two courses released late last year. Launching today, the new Referee Certification Course is available for officials across the country. The addition of this course brings the total to five courses and certifications released in the last year.
The free, two-hour Referee Certification Course is the officials' final main certification course and assessment. It reviews the responsibilities of a referee, how the role coordinates with the rest of the officiating team, identifies protocols, and more. After completion, officials should be able to understand the following:
- Demonstrate an accurate process of the protocols and responsibilities of a referee
- Recognize how to anticipate and troubleshoot common situations
- Applying USA Swimming rules and regulations, including the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy.
“We are proud to continue our work with the National Officials Committee to provide exceptional education for officials across the country,” said USA Swimming Senior Director of Sport Development Services MJ Truex. “This course, along with many others on USA Swimming University, allows members to lead their own educational journeys and learn at their own pace.”
This is the final main certification course and assessment for all new and renewing officials. It will replace the previous LSC-led referee training courses and the old assessment, which will no longer be available after April 15.
Other officials-specific courses launched this past year include:
- Administrative Official Certification
- Foundations of Officiating
- Starter Certification
- Stroke and Turn Certification
