by USA Swimming
SARASOTA, Fla. – The 2025 Open Water National & Junior National Championships concluded today with the 5K National Championship and 7.5K Junior National Championship. In addition to the national and junior national titles that were awarded, Ivan Puskovitch (West Chester, Pa./TSM Aquatics), Charlie Clark (Sandusky, Ohio/Ohio State University), Mariah Denigan (Walton, Ky./Indiana University), and Brooke Travis (Newark, Del./TAC Titans) qualified for the 2025 World Aquatics Open Water Championships in Singapore. A breakdown of events can be found here.
Men’s 5K – FINAL
1. Ivan Puskovitch (West Chester, Pa./TSM Aquatics), 56:10
2. Dylan Gravley (Las Vegas, Nev./Sun Devil Swimming), 56:12
3. Riku Takaki (JPN), 56:22
4. Taishin Minamide (JPN), 56:33
5. Kaiki Furuhata (JPN), 56:38
6. Koichiro Iwazumi (JPN), 56:38
Puskovitch on his swim: “Coming out of Friday’s 10K, I was certainly proud of my effort, but I was left wanting a little more given what was on the line. I knew I would have to come into this 5K, and I was absolutely ready to make a statement, get the job done, and make it onto that Singapore team. I just let it rip from the start since the 5K is more of a sprint compared to the 10K. I wanted to take control from the start and push the pace early, so I took that lead early on and tried to create separation. I ended up leading from start to finish, which wasn’t my intention from the start, but just happened organically.”
Women’s 5K – FINAL
1. Claire Weinstein (White Plains, N.Y./Sandpipers of Nevada), 1:01:33
2. Ichika Kajimoto (JPN), 1:02:14
3. Mariah Denigan (Walton, Ky./Indiana University), 1:02:15
4. Brooke Travis (Newark, Del./TAC Titans), 1:02:16
5. Misa Okuzono (JPN), 1:02:33
6. Abby Dunford (CAN), 1:03:28
Weinstein on her title: “Since I had already qualified for Worlds in the 10K, so I wanted to use this 5K to practice my race strategy and try something new. I wanted to work on moving through the pack and use a little bit of drafting, so for the first two laps of the race, I wanted to sit back a bit and see how the race would be from farther back in the pack. The last lap, I just wanted to move my way through and finish strong, and that went pretty well.”
Men’s Junior 7.5K – FINAL
1. Jackson Irwin (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Tsunami Swim Team), 1:31:01
2. James Darcy (Malverne, N.Y./Long Island Aquatic Club), 1:32:46
