COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nearly 100 athletes from across the country were selected for the 2020 USA Swimming Zone Diversity Select Camps, which were slated to start this weekend in Illinois and Idaho.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these camps have pivoted to a virtual format to provide the athletes who have earned this distinction a unique learning experience. These educational sessions will be facilitated by Regina Lewis and Cathy Wright-Eger and will cover topics of leadership and how identity plays a role in that. Wright-Eger was the Purdue Head Swim Coach from 1987-2008, then established the John R. Wooden Leadership Institute for coaches and student athletes after her coaching career. Lewis is a national speaker who presents on a variety of topics from diversity and inclusion to interpersonal communication and is the director of ReginaSpeaking, LLC.
USA Swimming is proud to recognize the athletes named to this year’s Zone Diversity Select Camps.
Any USA Swimming registered athlete member who identifies as a member of an underrepresented community and/or an ethnically underrepresented population, is eligible to represent the USA in international competition and has not previously attended a USA Swimming Zone or National Diversity Select Camp was invited to apply.
